FROM JOHANNESBURG (Approximately 300km): Travel along the N1 (to Bloemfontein).  Turn off along R57 through Vanderbijlipark, Sasolburg, Heilbron and PetrusSteyn.  As you approach Reitz turn right onto the R26 to Bethlehem. Go through Bethlehem (you will now be on N5).  About 8 km out of Bethlehem, turn right onto R712.  Clarens is about 30 km (about 25 minutes) from Bethlehem. When entering Clarens, take the first street to the right (SiasOosthuizen) and then the second street to the left, Swart Street. Talking Trees is situated on the left-hand side of Swart Street nr 474.  

ALTERNATEIVE ROUTE FROM JOHANNESBURG (Approximately 300 km): Travel along the N3 towards Durban.  At Villiers exit left onto the N26 and cross over the freeway and head in the direction of Frankfort.  At the T junction at Frankfort turn right onto the R26 to Bethlehem (via Tweeling and Reitz.)  The road between Frankfort and Reitz is badly potholed (especially around the Tweeling area.) Go through Bethlehem (you will now be on N5).  About 8kms out of Bethlehem, turn right onto R712.  Clarens is about 30 km (about 25 minutes) from Bethlehem. This route is not recommended for night-time travel, owing to the nature of the potholes. When entering Clarens, take the first street to the right (SiasOosthuizen) and then the second street to the left, Swart Street. Talking Trees is situated on the left-hand side of Swart Street nr 474. 

RECCOMMENDED ROUTE FROM DURBAN (400 km): Travel along the N3 (towards Johannesburg) but exit left at Harrismith (298 km from Durban) onto the N5.  Pass through Harrismith and turn left onto R712 to Phutaditjhaba. This route will take you through the scenic Golden Gate Highlands National Park, and on to Clarens.  When entering Clarens, take the first street to the right (SiasOosthuizen) and then the second street to the left, Swart Street. Talking Trees is situated on the left-hand side of Swart Street nr 474. 

ALETERNATIVE ROUTE FROM DURBAN (370 km): Travel along the N3 (towards Johannesburg).  Exit the N3 shortly after the Shell Ultra-City north of Estcourt, onto the R74. You will pass through Winterton, Bergville and then make your way up the Oliviershoek Pass past the Sterkfontein Dam. Exactly 98.5km from the N3 Shell Ultra City you will encounter an 18km stretch of half-completed and abandoned road, which needs to be negotiated very, very slowly. You eventually come to a T junction where you go left onto the R712 to Phutaditjhaba and The Golden Gate Highlands National Park.  Clarens is 105km from Harrismith. This route is not recommended for travellers travelling after dark. When entering Clarens, take the first street to the right (SiasOosthuizen) and then the second street to the left, Swart Street. Talking Trees is situated on the left-hand side of Swart Street nr 474. 

RECCOMMENDED ROUTE FROM BLOEMFONTEIN (280 km): Travel along the N1 towards Johannesburg. Just after Winburg take the N5 to Bethlehem. Go through Bethlehem but turn right onto the N5 (signposted to Durban).  About 8 km out of Bethlehem, turn right onto R712.  Clarens is about 30 km (about 25 minutes) from Bethlehem.  When entering Clarens, take the first street to the right (SiasOosthuizen) and then the second street to the left, Swart Street. Talking Trees is situated on the left-hand side of Swart Street nr 474.
